Tata Indigo XL

The Tata Indigo XL is one of the best cars to come out from Tata Motors. However it has not set the sales chart on fire at all. It is tremendous value for money. However why didnt it sell as much as you, me and Tata Motors thought it would? I mean it has loads and loads of features with fantastic legroom, more then enough to rival a D segment car.

But it hardly sells, Tata have even launched another basic version which has some of the features missin but at a cheaper price.

Lotsa pics after the jump

Well the problem with the Indigo XL is clear. It is priced in Honda City territory and no matter what features it has, it just cant match the quality of Honda cars. Plus at the price at which the diesel XL sells, there are too many cars with much better quality, engine, chassis, handling and braking.

For starters this is the first Tata vehicle (not including the Safari here) which has a common rail diesel. I guess people are afraid to do R&D(Research & Development) for Tata Motors and hence nobody wanted to go for it. It has also two LCD screens with DVD player, bluetooth, leather, trays(found in aeroplanes), alloys, beige interiors and the likes. But even after all this people still thought its better to stick to either the basic Indigo or get themselves a Honda City and i dont see why. I mean if you are the sought of person who loves driving the car, you would surely look elsewhere then at a Indigo, maybe at the Fiesta or Cedia(fantastic drivers car this) However the Indigo fills some requirements which other cars in the segment dont, like fantastic fuel efficency, lots of space, good ride and fantastic pricing an value for money. The new Indigo CS comes for around 4.5Lacs, which is fantastic value, its difficult to get a good hatch for that much and Tata gives you a sedan. The new Indigo which is coming soon, should take the fight to City, Fiesta and others in the segment. Till then check the pics below. Notice the built quality is still not up to the mark, with panel gaps, the gearshift is very rubbery and Tata still needs to improve alot on quality.
